Puerto Vallarta, Mexico – The first round of the Mexican PGA Golf Open concluded yesterday, with English golfer Harry Hall taking an early lead. Hall finished the round with an impressive score of 8-under-par (64 strokes), securing his position at the top with five birdies and an eagle.
Trailing Hall by one stroke is Germany’s Jeremy Paul, who sits at 7-under-par (-7). The tournament, held in Puerto Vallarta, has drawn international talent, but the best-placed Mexican player after the first round is Santiago De La Fuente, who ended the day in 18th place with a score of 4-under-par (-4).
De La Fuente, who teed off around 2:00 PM on Thursday, put in a strong performance, highlighted by an eagle on the 18th hole. Meanwhile, fellow Mexican golfer Gerardo Gómez finished in 71st place, while José Antonio Safa and Álvaro Ortiz both tied in 103rd position. Cristóbal Islas wrapped up the round in 116th place.
Defending champion Jake Knapp, who won last year’s Mexican Open, currently shares 18th place with De La Fuente after the first round.
The second round of the tournament will continue on Friday, with the third and fourth rounds scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
Gabriela López Starts Strong in LPGA Thailand Open
Meanwhile, on the LPGA Tour, Mexican golfer Gabriela López had a solid showing in the first round of the LPGA Thailand Open. López posted a score of 3-under-par (69 strokes) after 18 holes, placing her in 11th position.
Despite her strong start, López is currently trailing tournament leader Akie Iwai of Japan, who finished the round with an impressive score of 10-under-par (-10). With three rounds remaining, López will look to build on her performance and close the gap in pursuit of the title.
